Good vision is essential for your child’s learning, development, and confidence. At The Eye Studios, we understand how crucial early eye care is — that’s why we make children’s eye tests friendly, thorough, and stress-free.

Early detection makes all the difference

Many vision problems in children develop slowly and can easily go unnoticed. Regular eye tests help us spot issues such as:

  • Short-sightedness (myopia)

  • Long-sightedness (hyperopia)

  • Astigmatism

  • Lazy eye (amblyopia)

  • Squint (strabismus)

Detecting these conditions early gives your child the best chance of successful treatment — often preventing long-term vision problems.

Vision and learning go hand in hand

Around 80% of what children learn is through their eyes. Blurred vision, focusing difficulties, or eye strain can make reading, writing, and concentration more challenging. A simple eye test can ensure your child isn’t being held back by undetected sight issues.

Eye tests are easy, quick, and fun!

Children don’t need to be able to read to have an eye test. Our friendly optometrists use specially designed charts, lights, and games to make the experience enjoyable and comfortable for all ages.

NHS eye tests for children are free (Redhill practice)

All children under 16 (and those under 19 in full-time education) are entitled to a free NHS eye test. It’s a simple way to care for your child’s eyesight and overall wellbeing.

Why It’s Important for Children to Have Regular Eye Tests

Vision problems can begin at an early age, so it is important for children to receive proper and regular eye care. In addition to looking for changes in the front of your child’s eye, which could affect overall vision, we also need to look at the retina (the back of the eye), to check that it is healthy and showing normal signs of growth and rule out any disease or damage.

Many conditions, such as retinal detachments and retinal holes can be treated successfully if detected early. Redhill Eye Studio offers Optomap® to patients of all ages because an exam of the retina is an integral part of a comprehensive eye exam, regardless of how well you see.

Some eye problems can arise without a patient’s knowledge and an Optomap® allows us to get an ultra-widefield view of your child's retina in a fast and comfortable way. We would always recommend Optomap® as an integral part of your child's eye exam.

The Optomap® provides us with an overview of approximately 82% of your child's retina in a single capture, giving a more detailed view that can be compared against at every visit to monitor growth and changes.

Interestingly, the Optomap® was developed by Douglas Anderson - his son lost sight in one eye at the age of five due to an undetected retinal detachment. Mr. Anderson set out to develop a system that could capture an unprecedented view of the retina (200°) and was patient-friendly, particularly for children, who have natural tendencies to become impatient during an eye test.

STELLEST™

When it comes to myopia, correcting your child’s eyesight today won’t protect them for tomorrow. Myopia can still worsen, potentially affecting their future vision.

Stellest™ lens is Essilor’s best solution to fight your child’s myopia and its strong efficacy has been clinically proven.

Myopia can impact a child’s development

Playing, working, reading, discovering the world .... Did you know that more than 80% of children's learning occurs through vision? Myopia can seriously impact your child's eyesight and life.

More children are getting myopia at a younger age – partly due to a rise in sedentary indoor lifestyles and an increasing amount of time spent in near activities. The younger a child develops myopia, the further it evolves and the higher it becomes.

Children developing short-sightedness at a younger age may have an increased risk of developing high myopia and the risk of developing visual impairments in adulthood.

Corrects myopia and provides clear vision

Stellest lenses correct short-sightedness just like single vision lenses. The unifocal vision zone focuses the light perfectly on the retina. This guarantees good visual sharpness and greater visual comfort for your child.

Controls the progression of myopia

Stellest lenses are made up of a constellation of 1021 invisible lenslets. The unique constellation of lenslets creates a volume of signal into the eye in front of the child's retina, acting as a brake on the lengthening of the eye. This signal helps to slow down the eye elongation and therefore myopia progression.

Essilor Stellest lenses slow the progression of myopia by 67% on average, compared to standard lenses, when worn for at least 12 hours per day.

Children's frames

We offer a range of comfortable, colorful, practical frames which have been expertly designed with babies and children in mind.

The glass frames are made using non-toxic materials approved by the FDA.

The frames are flexible, display excellent elasticity, and do not break easily.

The frames are incredibly light: only 6 to 9g in weight.

There is a cushion on the tip that matches the complex curves of the ears

and does not press on the ears.

It is easy and simple to adjust the length of the temples.

To shorten them, remove the ear tip and cut off the excess length.

Replace ear tips and secure these in position using the screws.

To lengthen the temples, pull the ear tips back and secure them in place

with the screws.

The nose pads can be attached to three points of the frame

(five points on the baby range frames.).

As every child’s face is unique, this feature allows the correct placement

and height for each child can be achieved.

All frames from Tomato Glasses come with an attachable strap as a standard accessory. When attached, the strap prevents the glasses from slipping even with high-power lenses.

They provide security when actively running and jumping, making Tomato Glasses great sports glasses. Also, they are perfect for children with sensitive ears.
